US has officially lost its last pristine AAA credit rating,
now clipped down to Aa1,
joining the downgrade club with Fitch and S&P
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent downplayed
concerns over the US's government debt and the
inflationary impact of tariffs, saying the Trump
administration is determined to lower federal
spennding and grow the economy.
US Consumer sentiment deteriorated further in May,
with one year inflation expections soaring to levels
last seen in late 1981 amid escalating fears over the
economic impact of Donald Trump's trade policy.
Data showed US single family housing starts,
which account for the bulk of homebuilding,
dropped 2.1% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate
of 927000 units last month, lowest level in 9 months.
The latest update from the Atlanta Fed GDP now
now suggests that the US economy could
grow at a rate of 2.4%, down from 2.5%
