US Markets slide straight second day
Fed Chair Powell said that the policy path is difficult
for the Fed, which must consider both goals of the
dual mandate “equally,” pushing back against almost
certain rate cuts coming in the subsequent meetings.
US New Home Sales in Aug. improved sharply,
from 0.664 million to 0.8 million, a 20.5%
increase exceeding forecasts of 0.65 million.
Fed’s Goolsbee warned against a series of rate cuts,
saying the jobs market is still mostly steady and solid,
and added that he is uncomfortable with overly
frontloading cuts on the presumption that inflation
will probably just be transitory.
The German IFO institute's Business Climate index
has shown that the economic sentiment among
German firms deteriorated against
expectations in September.
Geopolitical tensions remain elevated.
Russian MiG-31 aircraft had entered Estonian
airspace, prompting NATO to deploy fighter jets
and Tallinn to call for Article 4 consultations.
